- March 27 and 28 – Spring Cultural Arts Classes. Location: Women’s Building, Jay County Fairgrounds. Four hands-on classes for ages 12 and up and one children’s class for ages 6 and up. All classes are 1 ½ days long. Adult classes are replica eagle wing bone whistles, personal hand drums, porcupine quill work, beaded neck bags and Ojibwe culture for children. Pre-registration before March 18. Class fee for adults $80 ($55 for NCGLNAC members) and $12 for children’s class. Contact Kay Neumayr at 765-426-3022 or kay.neumayr@ncglnac.com. - March 27 – NCGLNAC Lecture. Location Women’s Building, Jay County Fairgrounds. 7 p.m. Learn more about Great Lakes Native Americans. Shirley Willard, historian for Fulton County Historical Society, founder of the Potawatomi Trail of Death Association and adopted Potawatomi, will speak about the 1838 removal of the Potawatomi from their homelands in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. Free and open to the public.
- April 17 – NCGLNAC Academic Conference – “Eastern Woodlands Treaties.” Location: John Jay Center for Learning. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Five top educators and tribal leaders will make presentations on significant historical treaties between the Eastern Woodlands peoples and the French, English and American governments, including the treaties in this area. Of interest to educators, teachers, students, local history buffs and life-long students. Registration before April 10 of $30, $20 for students and includes catered lunch. - May 15 – NCGLNAC One-Day Cultural Arts Scrimshaw Class. Location: Jay Community Resource Center. George Trendle will teach beginning scrimshaw which is the ancient art of scribing onto antler, horn, ivory or shell. Registration before May 8 of $40, including materials. - June 12 and 13 – 7th Annual NCGLNAC Gathering of Great Lakes Nations Pow wow. Location: Tri-State Antique Gas Engine Grounds, Portland. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Grand Entries 1 and 6 Saturday and 12 Sunday. Enjoy Native American drums, singers, dancers, vendors, foods, artisan demonstrations, children’s activities, storytelling, pre-1840 re-enactment camp and much more. Reasonable admission charge. - August 2 – 6 – Summer NCGLNAC Cultural Arts Classes. Location: Women’s Building, Jay County Fairgrounds. Eleven hands-on, 2 ½-day classes planned for ages 12 and up, including primitive technology, sweet grass baskets, turkey feather dance fans, native plants, peyote beading, atlatl, fingerweaving, deer leg bags, black ash baskets, center seam moccasins and cedar flutes. - August 2 – 6 – Summer NCGLNAC Children’s Cultural Arts Classes. Location: Women’s Building, Jay County Fairgrounds. Children ages 6 and up will learn different aspects of Great Lakes Native Americans with different subjects and teachers each day. Pre-registration by July 21. Class Fee of $15 includes lunch. - October 2 and 3 – 8th Annual Jay Heritage Festival. Location: Jay County Historical Society. Free admission.
- October 23 and 24 – NCGLNAC Fall Friendship Fire Celebration. Location: Women’s Building, Jay County Fairgrounds. A gathering of members and friends for fellowship, site work, a craft, educational opportunities and a lecture. Pre-registration by October 15 of $25 includes all activities and Saturday evening meal and lecture. Contact Linda Andrews at linda.andrews@ncglnac.com or 765-838-0994.
- October 23 – NCGLNAC Children’s Cultural Arts Class. Location: Women’s Building, Jay County Fairgrounds. A wonderful opportunity for children ages 6 and up to learn more about the Great Lakes Native peoples. Pre-registration before October 15 of $12.
